**Update:  On 2/2022 I’ve added more books to this list and it is now over 100 books!!  My son is also a teenager but we love books about Puerto Rico. So I’ll continuously update this post.

This post was originally written in 2016 with 54 books listed.  As of 2019, I’ve updated the list with more book recommendations. We have 76 books recommended!   Since the list is continuously growing I’ve removed the image previews of the books for ease of viewing.
Thanks, Frances

When my child was born 8 years ago, I had a goal in mind: to find as many children’s books about Puerto Rico so I can share them with him.  Little by little, I started building up my child’s home library. Some of the books listed here we own, others are on my wish list.    Of the books that we do own, you’ll see an additional post on how we used it such as an activity or craft or a review on the book.

Since there are so many books on this list,  I broke them down into ten sections with a header so you can learn about Puerto Rico through these books: Notable Figures, Taínos, Flora and Fauna, Popular Culture, Christmas, Folk Tales, Geography, Picture Books, Chapter Books,  and Fiction.  I added Comics, too!

I hope you enjoy this list!  If there’s a children’s book that is not listed here please share it in the comments below so I can add it. ¡Gracias!

  1. Hola Frances,
The Rafi and Rosi Coquí Series has 8 titles!
Rafi and Rosi/ Rafi y Rosi
Rafi and Rosi Carnival!/ Rafi y Rosi ¡Carnaval!
Rafi and Rosi Pirates!/ Rafi y Rosi ¡Piratas!
    Rafi and Rosi Music!/Rafi y Rosi ¡Música!
All from Children’s Book Press, and imprint of Lee and Low Books. I think you were missing Pirates in your list. So terrific that the choices keep growing!

  2. Comprehensive list but I wish it was divided up by age group. It take a lot of time to look up each one to see what the age recommendation is.

    1. Author

Thank you for your suggestion! I agree It is time-consuming to look up the ages. I’ll keep your suggestion in mind when adding new books.
