Hi! I’m Frances, and I’m so happy that you are here. I’m the face and voice behind Discovering the World Through My Son’s Eyes.
About Discovering the World Through My Son’s Eyes
What started as a blog about a Latina mamá (me!) on a multicultural and bilingual journey with my son has evolved into a multicultural parenting lifestyle website where likeminded parents can come and find information on culture, multicultural parenting, raising bilingual kids, food, and travel. I love being able to help parents and educators alike!
Who am I?
I’m a Puerto Rican/Ecuadorian transplant in the South (South Carolina), married to a Southern gentleman and a mom to a tween. I started blogging part-time when my son was 4 years old while working in public service for a higher education institution as a Human Resources manager. I have 8+ years of experience as a writer for my blog and other parenting websites. You can see my work here. I’m also an avid multicultural and language advocate. For 5+ years I’ve coordinated the Hispanic Heritage Month event in the community library and I volunteer as a Spanish translator and interpreter for a commercial business. I have a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from La Universidad del Este in Puerto Rico and a certification in Human Resources from La Escuela Avanzada de Recursos Humanos.
A dormant passion…
Two years ago, a little fire lit inside me. The desire to do something different with my professional career. Inspired by many who told me that I had the gift of teaching and on my own son’s language journey I enrolled in the graduate program to obtain a Masters of Education in Languages (Spanish) from the College of Charleston. Talk about a 180-degree change, right? My passion now is to teach Spanish to children, teens, young and old because if there’s one thing I can definitely be sure about is that it’s never too late to learn a new language. Read more about it here.
My continued path…
Now I’m dedicated fully to writing, teaching Spanish, and continuing to discover the world through my son’s eyes with the goal of making my website a go-to resource for parents, educators, and caretakers.
